He takes the morning train...

For your viewing pleasure; the over capacity 7:45 baby bullet from San Jose to SF.

On the one hand I appreciate the simple existance of a train from my house to my office. With a bike car no less.

On the otherhand this is a blog and the essential mission of Teh Intertubes and Blogs is to complain about stuff.

So let me ask CalTrain this: After a month of using CalTrain even I can see that peak usage from the 7:45 from Redwood City is Wed & Thurs. So why do you put a 2nd car on for Mon & Tues but only have one car during peak usage?

If you don't have to be on a train until 7:45 in order to get to work, you really can't complain. Even if it is a blog.

Caltrain's equipment goes through very specific rotations to assure that the cars and locomotives show up at the maintenance facility at regular intervals for service, and to make sure that no train makes too many round trips before being serviced, running out of fuel enroute.

Then, that specific plan inevitably gets thrown out the window several times a day due to mechanical problems and other issues that delay trains, necessitating changes in the consist turns in order to cover the schedule. Even Caltrain can't tell you when any given train will have 2 bike cars. They know which trains they'd LIKE to have 2 bike cars, but it ends there.
